A day out in the city
On Friday, we took our car in for its half yearly service and then hopped on the 343 for an expedition in the city. The bus ride was sweaty and crowded and the temperature outside was quickly rising. It was probably not the best day to be walking around outdoors, which we quickly realised when we got off at Circular Quay.
Our first stop was the Museum of Contemporary Art. I really wanted to see the Olafur Eliasson exhibition but we're trying to save as much as possible at the moment and we had to pay for the exhibition so we decided to skip it for the moment. We did enjoy the parts of the museum that were free and which included some beautiful paintings by Indigenous artists. Apart from the art, we also thoroughly enjoyed the pleasure of being in an air-conditioned venue.
After the museum, we walked around The Rocks until it was too hot to stand. We quickly made our way to the Customs House library which is probably my favourite library in Sydney. I could spend hours there sitting quietly amongst the books, which i would have done if not for our fast-growing hunger. A friend had alerted us to 'Malay Chinese Takeaway' on 1/ 50-58 Hunter St and we walked there fast. It was very crowded and very noisy and most tables had bowls of laksa on them that looked amazing so despite the heat outside, we ordered a chicken laksa and mee goreng, both of which were delicious.
After lunch, we were full and tired and the thought of walking around did not seem like a good option so we got cool drinks and stayed indoors until it was time to collect our car. I'll leave you with some photos of the day.
